Babies - Plagiocephaly & Torticollis

  • Torticollis is a condition where a baby’s neck muscles are tight or shortened, causing the head to tilt or turn to one side.
  • Plagiocephaly, often linked to torticollis, is a flattening of one side of the baby’s head.

Physiotherapy can help by gently stretching tight muscles, strengthening weak ones, and guiding positioning and movement to encourage a more symmetrical head shape and range of motion. Early intervention is crucial to support motor development and prevent long-term postural issues. Correction of flat spots without use of orthosis/helmets becomes challenging once babies begin to roll around 4 months.

Early Intervention - Developmental Delay

At Wiggle & Go Physio, we offer gross motor milestone assessments for all ages. If you have concerns regarding your child's' gross motor skills please contact us. Early intervention is crucial to reduce need for ongoing support.

As a mother herself, Lauren understands how confusing contradicting milestone information can be. Every child moves at their own pace, but it is strongly recommended to seek support if your child:

  • Has poor head control at 6 months
  • Is not rolling both directions by 9 months
  • Is not sitting by themselves by 9 months
  • Is not standing without holding anything by 12 months
  • Is not attempting to take steps by 15 months
  • Is not walking by 18 months

If your child was born prematurely, please base milestones on their corrected age (as if they were born full term).

Milestones for older children:

  • Stairs (up and down holding on) by 2 years
  • Running and jumping by 3 years
  • Catching, throwing & kicking a ball by 4 years
  • Stand on one leg for 5 seconds by 5 years
